Want to experience the fun of Tokyo but are worried you’re too young! Well, don’t worry, we’ve organised a two week Summer Course just for you. If you’re 15-17, want to learn Japanese and love Japan then this is the perfect course for you. You’ll get to try on a yukata, test your Japanese cooking skills, and sing some karaoke, all in a super safe environment, so your parents don’t need to worry. With some awesome trips around Asakusa and Odaiba, you’ll see all sides of this spectacular country and be able to show off your new skills to your friends back home.

With some classic Japanese activities like karaoke and hands-on activities think Taiko drumming and Japanese sweets making, you'll never be bored.
Study
Lessons are at the Intercultural Institute of Japan one of the older schools in Tokyo. With a central location and lots of experience, you'll get the best teachers to help you on your way.

Week One
Yukata & Tea Ceremony
Join us for an afternoon of Japanese culture, held in a traditional setting. Let's start by getting into the right mood and get dressed up in the traditional garment Yukata (a type of Kimono). Then it's time to learn the art of serving and drinking green Japanese matcha tea. Enjoy watching the performance whilst eating a Japanese sweet (Wagashi), often served together with the rich green tea.
Be Loud and Learn Taiko
Traditional Japanese drums commonly known as Taiko are great for making some noise. Watch some professionals at work, then give it a go yourself and see if you have the rhythm.
Experience Shibori
We're sure you've heard of tie dyeing, this technique dates back to the 8th century. Japan has been using different ways of binding, stitching, folding and twisting cloth and traditionally dying the materials with indigo to create some of the most beautiful patterns. This is a great chance to create your own design and make something that you can take back home with you, to give as a gift or to keep as a memory of your time in Japan.

Explore cutting-edge technologies, interact with robots, and discover the mysteries of the universe at this interactive science museum in Tokyo Bay.
Odaiba Cruise
Wonder at the traditional delights of Asakusa, before hopping on a boat to cruise down to Odaiba to see the giant Unicorn Gundam.
Week Two
Shibuya and Harajuku
First explore Harajuku, famous for everything cute and colorful. You’ll definitely want to snack on street food here like delicious crepes or colorful cotton candy. Enjoy some free time to explore and shop before heading to Shibuya Crossing, where you’ll experience the rush of people crossing the street from all directions! Then ascend Magnet for a bird’s eye view of the crossing and all of Tokyo from above.
Wagashi Making
Join this alternative session and learn how to make wagashi - traditional Japanese sweets. See if you can craft with mochi and anko and then, best of all, taste your creations.
Kawaii Cooking Class
Experience traditional Japanese cuisine with a modern twist in this hands on class where you'll craft sushi rolls into cute designs and characters. Don't forget to snap a pic of your kawaii creation before you eat!
Cup Ramen Museum - Noodle Making
Noodles are everywhere in Japan and they’re delicious. Try your hand at making your own instant ramen noodles at the Cup Noodle Ramen Museum in Yokohama. Whilst you're in Yokohama, you'll then have free time to head over to the ferris wheel and amusements or maybe to see the historical red brick warehouse a landmark of Yokohama.
High School Visit
High School in Japan is pretty different. Come along for a visit and see what a day in the life of a school kid is like. You'll even get to try a club activity with other students attending the school!
Sing your heart out at Karaoke
We're sure you've heard of karaoke, but have you experienced Japanese style karaoke? In a private booth for your group, two microphones and take it in turns to sing along to your favourite songs. If you are brave enough, why not whip out those Japanese songs you know to impress your new friends!

Went over the Summer Course of 2019 and had one of the most memorable and enjoyable times of my life so far! Jose was an amazing guide around Tokyo and the classes at Akamonkai were VERY intensive, but also very enjoyable. The staff were very helpful, and cooperative. Every question I had was swiftly answered, and when I was having trouble with my sleeping arrangements it was promptly taken care of in an organized manner. I think one of the best parts about the staff is how knowledgeable they are of the tokyo area, many time I was able to ask about recommendations and not be let down. I had so much fun during the Spring course with Studytrip. It's a great experience and you do things that you don't usually do with common trips. You also have the chance to study Japanese at a language school, it's a bit challenging, but you learn so fast. Free Time
We keep the Youth Courses packed full of fun but you'll have plenty of chances to spend time with your new friends or your host family.

A pickup service is included in the cost of your tour.
Drop-Off Service at the Airport
For a fee of 21,000 yen, Studytrip.com can organize a Drop Off service for you to either Narita or Haneda airport. If you would like to take advantage of this option please let us know on your application form. Students must depart between 9am and 9:00pm. If your desired pickup time is outside of this window we are unfortunately, unable to offer this service.
